I got as far as

Training fees - £1200

then stopped, I fear if I add onto that the cost of food, insurance, toys (of which they have an obscene amount), hydrotherapy, show entries, travel to shows and training, titre testing, flea/wormer, treats, my collar and lead obsession, etc i'd give myself heart failure!

Mind you we do have six dogs between us, and if we wanted to we could spend alot less on them. It's our pleasure though and like others have said better than drinking/smoking/holiday and other such things!

It's Esme's fault really... GSD's eat alot and outgrow collars quickly

Food and Treats - £600
Insurance - £215
Flea/Worm Treatment - £100
Vaccinations - £50?
Other Vets Treatments - £200 (there's always something with Monty so it's probably more than that!)
Toys - £100
Agility Training - £120
Cost of Operation on his head which will take me years to pay off!! - £2700

Think that's everything which puts my total at around £4000!! BUT he's worth every penny!!

That comes to a whopping £2,640 and does not include Codee's spay, or Deacon's immunotherapy/skin & ear treatments as none of that is included in his insurance and he has cost me £8-900+ so far this year for that alone!!

Good job I love them!! Still I don't have kids to spoil
You must be feeding them truffles?

I'm giving my 2 CSJ which has been alot cheeper for us.

I've also just worked out that since I quite smoking over 18 months ago I've saved myself over £1300 which is nearly as much as the dogs cost me. So my thinking now is the OH should let me get another dog.

Food/treats $65.00 per month
Medications $250.00 per month
Grooming $16.50 per month
Veterinary Care $75.00 per month avg
Toys/accessories $20.00 per month
Training/entry fees $50.00 per month
Heartworm/flea preventative $15.00
Total $501.50 per month

Thats just for the one dog. Half of that is her medications though. A healthy dog would cost me less.

The cats don't cost near as much.

I really do not want to work it out.... but I'm sure it's way tooooo much as I cannot leave a pet shop with only the essentials, and a growing pup needs the best food/insurance/leads/treats/toys etc etc... and getting separate shampoo for her white parts really is important even though she barely ever has a bath...

However.... I have a 10 year old daughter who is a dedicated follower of fashion, and an 8 year old son who insists on ripping all his trousers and scarring his knees every week.... so in perspective.... I think Tess is cheap ....
