Amazed

Hi all,
Well i shouldn't really be,with some peoples attitudes towards staffords.
Earlier while we were out a lady and her two children stopped to speak to us and make a fuss of Tyler, she commented on how well behaved he was and asked if he was good around children,i replied that he loves people and kids espcially, she then said it's just other dogs they try to rip the throat of then. I said No not if they are socialized properly with other dogs when they are young,i also said yes they do get bad publicity, generally down to bad owners.

some people just read and hear what they want and make there own consumptions that a staffy or another breed of dog that has been in the lime light are all the same as ones they see on walks ive yet to meet a staffy who has shown any aggresion and when i do meet one i always ask questions and this way the owner knows that you are intersted in the breed i think they are gorgeous but before i smooth one or any other dog i always ask if its alright i dont want to go upsetting the dog or the owner

Your right,
I have always taught my children to ask the owners first if the dogs are friendly before they stroke them.
There arn't many staffies around here and i am trying my hardest to change peoples attitudes towards them. Were trying to be responsible owners by keeping him under control at all times when we are out,but it is very hard one irresponsible owner does an awful lot of damage towards the breed/any breed.

i totally agree with you if the dog is bought up well it will respect all humans and other dogs but if bought up to be nasty then the dog or its breed of name dont stand a chance i think staffs are a wonderful breed when i first ever saw one i was abit afraid i have to admit but when i got to know this breed and be around a staff i saw the other side to this wonderful breed i think they are loving funny and they are good with children as tyler and everyone else who owns one with children have proved

We get the same with Suki - people jump to conclusions that we're walking a dangerous dog! All dogs have the potential to be dangerous in the wrong hands - just because my puppy is massive and has a loud bark doesn't make her dangerous!

It's such a shame that this happens.

We met someone with a lovely... HUGE but lovely rottie and as he approached us, she kept shouting to us 'he's not aggressive! Don't worry he won't bite!'

I wasn't worried in the slightest as the big dope had such a lovely kind face and he didn't look at all aggressive but she said that many people get really, really worried because of his breed that nobody will fuss him

I must admit, the majority of staffies around here aren't dog friendly but a lot of it is down to the owners or the fact that they found it difficult to socialise them as pups due to other people not wanting their dog to play with a staffy. Takara isn't fussy and plays with some staffie crosses that walk in our local park but they are very noisy and boisterous and they scare Eddy so he won't give them the time of day.

I also know some lovely Staffies and Dobermans and if the owner asked if we would let Zanta play as they were friendly we would, they always seemed pleased as so many people would ignore them or change direction.Any breed of dog is dangerous if it is not brought up with respect and socialised well and treated kindly. Its a shame when certain breeds are bought by the wrong people.

I had the same problem with my Dane - mind you, she was great at getting rid of door-to-door salesmen

LOL Vicki !

I guess at least the women bothered to ask instead of just assuming and changing direction, and you know... Hopefully she will go away with a different opinion about Staffys now she has met yours and spoke to you.
