Shay ~ A Darling Boy – 2yo Black Greyhound

SHAY

**UPDATED: APRIL 2013**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Shay would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family.
Key Points: Super affectionate, friendly, always happy, walks to heel, good in car, excellent with other dogs his size.

Shay is a 2 year old greyhound boy who was considered not good enough for the racing world. He is certainly good enough for us though! Shay has a lovely thick black coat that is shedding at the moment, but it’s going to be so sleek and shiny one he’s finished. He is a really lovely big greyhound boy with a beautifully soft expression, and though he could do with losing a couple of pounds, it just means more Shay to go around!

~ Personality ~
Generally: Very loving, bouncy, friendly, adores people. Good boy, balanced and happy-go-lucky.
Shay has a really really lovely personality, its hard not to love him. He adores everyone, everything, and asks for very little. He is the ultimate ‘best friend package’, and has so much love to give to anyone who spares him a second of their time. He knows our kennel staff now, and is always super happy to us. Especially if we have tasty treats – this boy lives for his food!

Shay is going to be such a fantastic family pet. All he needs is to be given the chance, and we’re sure he will grasp it with both paws. He is going to LOVE the home comforts and, most importantly, being able to be around his people 24/7.

~ In the Home ~
Generally: Not yet in a home environment. Clean in kennel.
Shay has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. Shay is clean in his kennel, which often indicates that they will take housetraining in their stride.

~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Excellent with other dogs his size, to be tested with smallies soon.
Shay gets on with everyone and is always willing to say hi to the other greyhounds. He has not been tested with smaller dogs yet, but this will be carried out soon. Shay would make a lovely, balanced companion for a resident dog, and may slot well into a pack situation. He is very happy-go-lucky and accepts what’s given without complaint, making him super easy to keep as happy as can be.

~ Out and About ~
Generally: Walks to heel, happy to meet everyone, polite and content, good traveller, ok in busy satiations.
Like most greyhounds, Shay is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He walks like a dream on the lead and is always happy to say hi to anyone he meets on his walks.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are very calm, mannerly dogs that are used to being handled. They can fit into a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Am I? ~
Shay is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Shay is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Shay, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering Shay, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page or Fostering Page .

Thank you.

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us.

**UPDATED: 22nd JUNE 2013**

Location: Foster home in Suffolk, UK.
Key Points: The perfect dog!! Super affectionate, friendly, always happy, walks to heel, good in car, excellent with all other dogs, great in the house, toilet trained, has basic manners, very responsive, tries to be good.

Shay is a 2 year old greyhound boy who was considered not good enough for the racing world. He is certainly good enough for us though! Shay is 26” to the shoulder and has a lovely thick black coat that is shedding at the moment, but it’s going to be so sleek and shiny one he’s finished. He is a really lovely big greyhound boy with a beautifully soft expression, and though he could do with losing a couple of pounds, it just means more Shay to go around!

Shay recently got his very own photoshoot with the talented Madaboutgreys Photography (http://www.madaboutgreys.com/):

~ Personality ~
Generally: Very loving, friendly, adores people, lurves cuddles. Good boy, balanced and happy-go-lucky.
Shay has a really really lovely personality, 10minutes with him is all you need to fall in love, we guarantee it! He adores everyone, everything, and asks for very little. He is confident but mannerly, polite and responsive to your requests, very much a typical greyhound. He is the ultimate ‘best friend package’, and has so much love to give to anyone who spares him a second of their time.

Shay would also be a fab boy for a first time greyhound owner because he is the perfect example of a sweet greyhound. Shay is going to be such a fantastic family pet. All he needs is to be given the chance, and we’re sure he will grasp it with both paws. He is going to LOVE the home comforts and, most importantly, being able to be around his people 24/7.

~ In the Home ~
Generally: Housetrained, home savvy, ok to be left with canine company, ok as only dog with human company, great addition to a pack.
Shay has been in his foster home for 3 weeks now and is doing so so well. He is perfectly housetrained, is fine to be left with his canine buddies and is not destructive. He has started discovering the joys of toys and is learning the house rules quickly from his foster brothers and sisters. Shay is such a no-bother kind of dog, content with what’s given to him and he visibly aims to avoid causing trouble. He just wants to love and be loved, and is such a cuddler on the sofa in the evenings. We can't wait to see this lad in his forever home, and hope he isn’t repeatedly overlooked just because of his black coat. This dog is FANTASTIC!

~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Excellent with all other dogs, very calm, polite and laid back.
Shay gets on with everyone and is always willing to say hi to other dogs of all shapes and sizes. He is very laid back and polite, putting other dogs at ease. Shay would make a lovely, balanced companion for a resident dog, and may slot well into a pack situation. He is very happy-go-lucky and accepts what’s given without complaint, making him super easy to keep as happy as can be.

Shay is currently sharing his foster home with 2 other greyhounds and a JRT. He loves them all and slotted easily into this pack as if he was always there.

~ Out and About ~
Generally: Walks to heel, happy to meet everyone, polite and content, good traveller, ok in busy situations.
Shay’s excellent manners and calm demeanour continues as such when out in the ‘real world’. He is very responsive to the lead, is friendly and social (unless you’re a squirrel!) and travels fabulously in the car. Like most greyhounds, Shay is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week.

**UPDATED: 14th JULY 2013**

Location: Foster home in Suffolk, UK.
Key Points: Just excellent! Friendly, quietly confident, calm, centered, perfect gentleman, very loving and cuddly, great with all other dogs, likes having company, good with all people, walks to heel, perfect!

Shay is a 2 year old greyhound boy who was considered not good enough for the racing world. He is certainly good enough for us though! Shay has a lovely thick coat that is really starting to sheen in the sun now that he’s getting regular grooming sessions. He is a really lovely greyhound boy with a kind, gentle expression. He is 26” to the shoulder.

Shay recently got his very own photoshoot with the talented Madaboutgreys Photography (http://www.madaboutgreys.com/):

~ Personality ~
Generally: Absolute gentleman, calm, quiet, friendly, affectionate, quietly confident, mannerly, excellent dog.
Shay has a really really lovely personality; it’s hard not to love him. He adores everyone, everything, and asks for very little. He is confident and affectionate, loves being stroked and cuddled and makes new friends wherever he goes. He is always ready to say hello but never forgets his manners and doesn’t get overly demanding nor jump up when excited.

Shay is the ultimate ‘best friend package’, and has so much love to give to anyone who spares him a second of their time. We’re simply amazed he hasn’t been snapped up yet as he has no hang-ups at all and is perfectly home ready. He would be a fantastic greyhound for a first time owner as he is so typical of the breed.

~ In the Home ~
Generally: Excellent in the home, housetrained, non-destructive, ok with canine company, mannered.
Shay has been in his foster home for 2 months now and is doing splendidly. He is sharing his home with 2 greyhounds and a Jack Russell and loves them all to bits. He’s basically just incredibly happy all day long, and is so good at cheering you up if you’re down. He is responsive to people and will stop anything if told ‘no’. He’s housetrained, not destructive, ok to be left with canine company and is now learning to play with toys. In short, Shay is a simple delight and has literally TONS of love, loyalty and friendship to give.

~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Excellent with all other dogs, enjoys their company, dog savvy, well balanced.
Shay gets on with everyone and is always ready to say a polite hello to other dogs. He is very laid back and gentle, putting other dogs at ease. He shares well in the home, remains mannerly when food is about and will stop if the other dog has had enough. We’ll say it again, this boy is just perfect!!

~ Out and About ~
Generally: Walks to heel, perfect gentleman, very friendly, responsive, good in car, ok with traffic.
Like most greyhounds, Shay is a total couch potato by nature and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He walks like a dream on the lead and is always happy to say hi to anyone he meets on his walks. He responds to correction very well and will calm down quickly should something like a squirrel dart across his path, the ultimate temptation! He is fine in the car and also ok to walk in busy traffic. Shay will be suitable to be let offlead in safe areas away from public roads and livestock once a strong bond has formed with his new owners.

Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Can I Live? ~
Shay is a very adaptable hound and would suit a wide range of home types. He is gentle and calm enough to suit an older owner, but will also happily play and interact with kids over age 8. He loves having company and would be an excellent, balanced companion for a resident dog or also an easy addition to a pre-existing pack. He is very happy-go-lucky and accepts what’s given without complaint, making him super easy to keep as happy as can be. Please don’t let Shay wait longer for his forever home, he has so much to give right now.
