Tripe (again)

After my last post I decided to try tripe, have always fed raw, chicken carcasses and wings, lamb/beef/pork bones, turkey necks, duck and goose carcasses, pheasants and rabbit, offal (in small quantities) e.t.c with no problems, however everybody is ... um....loose on tripe! Is this normal? They're only getting about 150/200g per day in addition to their other food. They've never been loose before and I have even fed some meat that's been a little close to being pongy and all been fine on it.

i have to agree with tupac, is the tripe!!

Kira gets 400g of tripe in a week, if i was to feed the amount you do i think she'd lose about 2 stone in a day!! lol

tripe is very good for them, but you dont need much lol

I've also heard that tripe can cause very loose bowel movements!

Do you feed the 400g across the 7 days?

Why is it good for them? Ie...where's the science? Obviously if they were loose in the wild, they would be eating more than 150g a day if they had a live kill.

Don't blame you! I tried it once (well, not me, the dogs) and it was horrific! I thought it was a bit of a treat for them, hmmmm! Some treat! Never again.

It can put weight on a dog, if the dog tolerates it, but some just don't. I don't know, scientifically, why I'm afraid. Just that the dogs aren't used to it and can't tolerate it, I suppose.

There are other ways of putting weight and condition on a dog, thankfully.

Raz, Bran and Shamus are fine on it. (Daisy doesn`t like it) Raz gets about 600gms a day, the others just get a bit because he`s got some. All poos are solid.

I've just put mine back on a raw diet after quite a long break as they weren't doing so great on complete. Mine are getting 2lb (think that's about 900g?) of tripe each most days, I always have fed a lot of tripe as I was told it was good for keeping the weight on. They don't have any problems with it.
