There are, as we all knew before this thread, a lot of very responsible bull breed owners on here. Owners who do research their breed and know it well...(unlike out there in the real world sadly...which is where the bad press comes from). I think, what the original OP was saying, is that his friend was one of those responsible owners...and bang...he has lost one of his dogs. You never know the moment and we have to all be vigilant in that respect. I think he posted just to warn bull breed owners that they should be incredibly careful because of what their dogs can do...because of instinct. Nope, it wasn't worded very well, but the point is there for all owners of more than one dog adn for bull breed owners, perhaps we should take it as that?

This thread does have the ingredients of bad press, give it the shock impact to grab peoples attention a give it a tittle like warning to "fighting breed" owners which it certainly has done, at this point in time this thread has had 1,344 views, and pick out an isolated incident.

I agree SBT, the op was badly worded,BUT i don't think that was to give bull breeds any more negative press to be honest, the op was, I believe, trying to offer a word of advice. Please bear in mind the op doesn't live in Britiain and so probably isn't aware of everything that is going on here.

The OP has posted comments before though, stating people shouldn't have children and dogs in the same house etc.

I have a Bullbreed, but the Bull mastiff certainly wasn't bred for fighting!

Why are people comparing Chihuahua's to Am Staffs etc? The reason for the warning as I see it, was these dogs WERE originally bred for fighting, they are made to switch on in a flash, they have an incredibly high pain threshold and will not and do not stop fighting easily. Thats the reason, when these dogs go, they go!

Calm down all (yes thats me saying that!)
Dawn.

saying 'fighting dogs'shouldnt be in the same house as kids
well, the thing is most breeds of dog dont do the jobs they were originally disigned for, unless there farm/working dogs

i think even if the OP doesnt come from this country they should try and respect that other people do,unless they were intentionally trying to rub people up the wrong way

Sorry....don't understand your post.

The OP has previously stated dogs shouldn't be in the same household as children.

Everyone knows a lot of dogs don't do their 'original' job.
Most dogs don't even have a job anymore.
Bullmastiffs have never been used for fighting though. Their original job was a gamekeepers dog. And now, they don't have 'jobs'.

SBT The reason some people think this may be because there was a recent thread on the topic when some people argued break sticks are necessary for bull breed owners to have .

Then the topic has been raised again here by the same person who raised it before..

A break stick is the best method to stop a fight, for bull breeds

Mine do it to socks lol, i cannot open their jaws when they have a sock they wont drop!

At a time of uncertainty over Bullbreeds I don't think it does any good at all to keep on stating how aggressive certain breeds can be with each other, I also think stating the need for break sticks adds to the 'tough image', I bet those that have fighting dogs brag about needing them .

Why to I choose to highlight the posts of one certain person, because one person in particular keeps repeatedly stressing the aggressive tendencies of one breed even to the extent of continually arguing the necessity to retain aggression, and I think this is damaging and unnecessary particularly at this time and I will continue to say so .

I personally think all dogs have a tolerance threshold and if this is exceeded any dog can bite. The tolerance threshold is influenced by a number of factors including socialisation/hormones/breeding/ fear/pain/the circumstances at the time of an incident.

Granted some dogs can do more damage than others when they fight depending on their size/jaw size as is the case with humans, I am 5'4'' and small and if I got into a fight with a 6'4'' 18 stone athletic man there is little doubt who would win .

Johan has drawn our attention to what some dogs are capable of, any dog can be capable of aggression for the reasons I have stated above and I think we should take care about portraying misleading images of some breeds.
