Home needed for Diesel

Can you offer my 2 year old Malamute/Husky a home. He is a much loved family pet. The only reason he has to go is, my marriage ended, and i have to privately rent a home. Landlord wont accept pets. Tried finding other houses, but time is running out. He is awesome, can be walked off lead, although would suggest you keep him on the lead until he gets used to you and the area. He has run off before, when we first moved here, but found his way home before me! He has been brought up with children, and is very loving, he likes to sit on the settee, although, looks at you from the corner of his eyes, because he knows he isn't supposed to be there. He is completely house trained, and obeys basic commands. He is a Malamute, so he is stubborn. He doesn't go to the toilet in the toilet in his own garden, but out on walks. Anything else i can tell you, please just ask.
Lynne

Have you contacted breed rescues? I am so sorry you are having to rehome your dog, he sounds lovely.

Huskies and Malamutes are very popular but are increasingly ending up in the wrong homes and there is a concern some are now being used in dog baiting/fighting.

So please please don't post your need for a new home for your boy on sites such as F~cebook etc!

I would urge you to contact a reputable rescue, this is the best chance your lovely boy has of finding a caring new home.

Thank you, it's bad enough, i have to find a new home for him. I would hate to think of him going to a place which does dog baiting! That's just awful. Thank you for your reply.

Yes, it's ghastly what happens to some dogs.

Let us know how you get on; there are some folk with Huskies and Mals on this site so I'm hoping they may come along and offer more advice and info

I'm very sorry to hear you're having to rehome your dog. Is there no-one who can temporarily home him while you sort out some accommodation that can take pets?

I'm sure you're heartbroken at the thought of losing him.....

xx

I have had a lady call who wants him. However, i am more concerned than ever about where he is going. I did look into the 'Dogs trust', it says, that they check the home before the dog is allowed home with them. Is this right? Thank you all who have replied.

How are you getting on rehoming your boy? I am in Ludlow and deal with many of the local rescues in Shropshire, Herefordshire & Worcestershire and have mals and husky crosses and taken dogs from malamute rescue before so have experience of the breeds.
Contact me via my email address or my mobile number which can be found on my website (links via my profile) if you think I may be able to help you

I'm sure if you suggested a "home visit" for this lady, it would help you to get a feel for her. Even if it's just her refusing to allow it, which would be a big red flag! Home checks aren't foolproof, it only gives you a snapshot in time (many people will be on theri best behaviour, house and garden the tidiest it's ever going to be, I've even heard of some unscrupulous people using a friend's house or similar ways to give a false perception - but imagine this isn't too common) but it lets you speak to the person face-to-face which can help you get a gut feeling for them.

You can find some rescue's home check questionnaire's online which may help you pick your own questions to ask. Ditto with adoption forms which may be useful to send over email to weed out potential owners before you arrange a home visit, especially if they're not too local.
E.g. http://www.fourpawsanimalrescue.org....rm_Updated.pdf and http://www.littledogrescue.co.uk/PreAdoption.html

If you do find a rescue to help though, you at least know that the rescue can offer help and support to the new owner. For example, if their situation changed 2 years down and line and they sadly could no longer keep him, what would happen? If you still weren't able to take him back, he may get passed on to another home, and maybe they won't take as much care finding him his new home as you. At least if a rescue had helped home him, they could take him back in and vet his next home carefully too.
