New to dog owning!

Hi all,

I adopted a rescue dog from the Dogs Trust about10 days ago and am certainly finding it hard work. He is a Jack Russell (or cross) but is quite big so friends have said he could be a Parson Russell terrier. He was picked up in Scotland as a stray. Although he is being very good there are obviously a few problems - the main ones being that he goes mad every time he sees another dog wanting to play with them and the other big one is that he chews everything including the furniture and the door frames. I am hoping that the chewing is partly a stress thing from having a new home.

Anyway I am looking forward to reading about all your dogs and hopefully finding lots of useful advice here.

Hello, I adopted a dog just over a year ago from a rescue centre and Joe started chewing things. We used a citronella spray from a pet shop and sprayed it on door frames, the carpet, his bed, the skirting, I could on forever, LOL, but it did work, Joe hated the smell and taste. Now, Joe is crated when alone or at night as a few months ago he began peeing everywhere for no apparent reason. Joe is alot calmer and happier now and loves his crate, it's HIS place when things get a bit stressfull and he can go in there and relax. Goodluck
