Sebaceous cysts

Individuals within my breed (Elkhounds) seem to be prone to this condition and of the 7 I have owned 2 have suffered with them. The point of my post is does anyone know of anything that may act as a deterrent to them developing, they seem to affect dogs with a particular type of coat so I was wondering if there was anything, like teatree, that may be effective in either stopping the cyst developing or treating after it has. May be to treat externally is to deal with it too late and an internal remedy is required.

Ah! yes, sorry the lady with the Boxer, bang goes my theory that it affects certain sorts of coat, nothing could be more different than the coat of a Boxer and that of an Elkhound. :smt102 back to the drawing board

This article says that antiseptic rinses, antibiotic ointments and corticosteroid creams can be used as a treatment. I will see if I can find any info on tea tree oil.

Sebacious Cysts aren't actually cysts they are pyoma's caused by sweat glands getting blocked or an alergic reaction, normally to fresh grass growth.
There is no cure, but washing feet after EVERY walk in warm water with epsom salt in it DOES help.

Hi All,
My poor Standard Poodle Trina has another (her 2nd) Sebaceous Cyst. I feel so bad for her. I could use any info that anyone can provide. It has not opened yet but looks painful. She started licking it yesterday so I've cleaned the area well (shaved around it) and am putting hot compresses on it, then used Betadine to clean well, then top it off with Antibiotic ointment. Trying to make sure she doesn't lick (e collar) and also keep it from getting infected. Once it starts to drain, do I need to try to get the "stuff" out or just leave it to drain itself and continue with the hot compresses? Thanks for any info!!!!!!
