Berry bugs?

Hi
I've been trying for weeks to find out why my 15 month old Jack Russell nibbles and licks her feet. She's had a blood test, anti-histamines, a steroid injection and special shampoo! I eventually contacted the friend of a friend who arranged for us to buy her as an 8 week old pup and he told me he also has a JRT with what sounds the same problem. He took her to a vetinary skin specialist who diagnosed berry bugs. The treatment he advised is Fuciderm, which I got from the vet and it does seem to be helping. I do worry because it is a steroid which causes other problems! I try to avoid letting her near long grass now so fingers crossed! If anyone knows of a safer treatment I would be grateful.

First of all your dog may not have the same thing as the other one.

If your dog has harvest mites you can see them and they can be treated with flea spray.

Yes, it sounds like a harvest mite allergy to me too. One of my dogs had this a few years ago. Unless they cluster together as an orange pinhead, you can't see them with the naked eye. I was advised to spray the affected areas with Frontline spray every two weeks, starting before the harvest season and continuing a couple of weeks after. With my dog they affected the face and around the eyes as well and he nibbled his legs so much they became infected. He did grow out of it eventually.
