Mucus Coating On Stool (Suggestions on what may be the cause?)

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this. Sometimes when my dog
goes to the bathroom, there is a type of mucous coating on it. I have
no clue as to why. She is on a few medications and she takes a lot of
vitamins, so I'm wondering if that's the cause of this.

Has anyone seen this with their dog?

Stools which are covered in a slimy mucous are often a sign of colitis.

Yes, can be, this is what my dog has had in the past.

Other signs I found were her having stomach rumbles, also feeling in pain (ache) and wanting to eat grass at all times, plus when she got it running to the loo and passing blood eventually

She's fine now she's on Hills ID (not something I'd favour but she does so well on it, blummin expensive though). However if i feed her almost anything else other than Hills, she starts to show mucous, by anything else i mean even a sliver of apple which she used to love.

If it does turn out to be colitis, try Hills Id and keepher off anything else is my advice.

I tried a few other foods and she got colitis again unfortunately

Although she can just bout tolerate a bone to gnaw on

Hi Novavizz, I just looked up symptoms of colitis in dogs and I don't believe
that my dog has that. She is not experiencing any of the symptoms that
were listed.

Hi Wysiwyg: My dog has been eating grass lately. Something she never
used to do. I don't think she has any stomach rumbles, though and she
doesn't seem to be in any pain. She's not passing blood either.

I do have about 6 cans of the Hills Science ID. She had a virus or
something last month where she was throwing up, so my vet put her on
that.

How is colitis diagnosed?

I just looked this problem up on the internet and it said that it could be some
type of parasite. Other symptoms are vomiting, loss of appetite and
lethary which she had last month.

I just called my vet and I will be bringing a stool sample to them
tomorrow. I really hope this is nothing serious.

Good, it can be very uncomfortable for a dog with colitis. The more you read up on things though the more you worry, if concerned I would take a trip to the vets to put your mind at rest.

Hope your dog is soon going normally!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Novavizz. I've been researching this on the internet, and it says
that mucous on the stool could be caused by a parasite, colitis, or irritable
bowel syndrome.
