Entering Jin into an obidience contest......

Weekend of the 19th. Scary!

Its quite simple:

Walk nicely on the lead.

Recall with finish (best teach her a 'finish' then..... whats a good 'finish' ?).

Sit/stay for one min.

Down/stay for one min.

Any tips?

I'm not looking for a placing, I will be pretty proud if she completes.

When we do a finish in class the dog walks round you back and sits at your side facing forward

Ummm it was ages ago I learned but i think we first got the dog sitting in front, then with a treat, lured it aroud the back and then then said "finish" when in correct position.

Should be fairly easy to teach, especially if she is clicker trained. If not, don't panic, I taught our dog a good Finish many years ago when I was a teenager, and using only treats.

Yeah, she is clicker trained. Will have a try tomorrow, shes fairly quick.

My main concern is the down/stay.... she doesnt like lying down on slipped hall floors..... how do I tackle that??

You can train a German or an English finish. The former is where the dog moves to YOUR left after the "present" the latter is where the dog goes round the back of you to finish at your left hand side.

If your dog does not like slippery floors, start on a mat and then fade it (by making it smaller and smaller) get the behaviour you want and then get it WHERE you want.

A contest, wow, is this an in club one or a KC licensed Pre Beginner one?

Its a companion dog show, not KC though. Just heard about it from a friend and is quite local so thought it would be interesting. Entries are only £1.30.
