Home made jam!

Kev just made some plum jam - his mum gave us loads of plums from a tree we never knew she had!!

It's very nice, can't see it lasting long! Going to try elderberry jam when they are ripe.

2lb stoned plums
1.5 lbs sugar
.75 pint water.

Oven onto 140, sugar into dish and into oven. Fruit and water into large pan, simmer until fruit is soft. Add sugar, simmer until all sugar is dissolved. Turn heat up high and boil for 10 minutes. Put a little bit onto a cold plate and let cool then nudge the jam, if it wrinkles it's ready, if not contiunue to boil until it does. While boiling, warm your jars so they do not break when you put the hot jam in. Leave to cool then put lids on.

Tra la!

Kev is currrently making more jam - he has realised that he got his quantities of sugar and water muddled up with a recipe below the one he was following, which probably explains why the last lot though lovely was very hard to spread!!
