RSPCA Report - dogs in cars and dog training

Here is the link to the most recent report from the RSPCA

It does contain some upsetting photos

http://freepdfhosting.com/d05f0b831f.pdf

On page 14, there are two interesting if sad articles. One is with reference to the dogs (Malinois and puppy GSD) who died in the hot car who belonged to the police dog handler, and the other is in relation to a trainer who was prosecuted under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 because he was not looking after the welfare of the dogs in his class (in other words he was abusing them vilely).

Do watch out if you scroll through the Report, as there are some upsetting case histories ... I read a couple and that was enough for me

Cars are no more, no less than tin boxes. The problem with tin boxes is that they heat up very quickly and freeze very quickly.

I sat in the car with Rosie yesterday while OH nipped into Tesco. After a minute, it was roasting. Even with both door open and the back fully up, it was warm.

He was all of five minutes in the shop. Had I not opened everything up, it would have made me ill, never mind the dog.

If you think you might have to leave your dog in the car (if only for five minutes), leave him/her at home.

Maybe try clicking on this link - if you scroll right down to the bottom, you can try clicking on the report 2011 ... wonder if it will work that way.....

Yes and no
Seems people dont have the sense to keep their cars cool

I am at agility shows on sunny weekends (yes we have them in scotland sometimes) and at a show to me my car is a big cool crate
If possible I park in that shade, reflectors are on all the windows and all windows open enough to catch any breeze
coolomg bandanas for all the dogs (and me)
Then I tie sheets onto the outside of the car to make double sure its shaded

I have seen me on really hot days nip back to the car for a cool down - and Ben pulls to get back to the car cos he isnt a fan of the heat

I do the same out and about - find somewhere shady to park and cover the car up and crack the windows. TBH on holidays and stuff it is impossible NOT to have the dogs in the car sometimes as you cant leave them in hotels when you are out

Its not rocket science to keep a car cool - but it does take common sense
