Ear infections... causes, prevention... healthy alternitives

"Dogs with chronic, recurrent ear infections often receive repeated prescriptions for ear salves containing steroids (see http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/steroids.htm )
and antibiotics, but these poor dogs are rarely permanently cured. Experts now recognize that many ear infections are caused by underlying allergies(see http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/petallergies.htm ),
which might prompt the doctor to recommend diet changes, nutritional supplements(see http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.co...h-supplies.htm ),
homeopathic remedies( see http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/ahomeo.htm ),
or any number of holistic treatments. Pets with chronic skin disease and even epilepsy often respond favorably to a simple change in diet( http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/animals.htm ),
yet many go through life living from one steroid or anticonvulsant pill to the next, unnecessarily. Holistic medicine often gives a pet with chronic or incurable diseases a new chance at health." *AltVetMed

And don't forget, increase the child's intake of Vitamin C and Garlic.

another opinion:
Eardrops - Mainstream doctors will tell you that using eardrops is illogical because what happens in the ear canal is unrelated to the infection in the middle ear. But as the queen of ear aches myself, I have felt much relief from eardrops when I have had an earache. I have used a Mullein and Garlic in olive oil ear drop, a colloidal silver ear drop, an ear drop containing citricidal, and a water and hydrogen peroxide ear drop, all with good results.

Antimicrobial & Antiparasitic Ear Oil

Mix:

* One part Mullein Infused Oil
* One part Garlic Infused Oil
* 10-20 drops of Vit. E oil for each 1 oz of garlic & mullein oil mixture

To use: apply 6 -12 drops to the effected area of the earflap or ear canal. Flooding the ear canal is not necessary

If you do not have the ingredient to make your own oil, I have some already made up for you.

Garlic/Mullien Ear Oil - (aka "LaMancha Ear Oil)
Ingredients: Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Garlic, Mullien, Vit. E.

Traditionally used to aid in the treatment of inner ear infections, inner ear fluid and inner ear swelling. I use it on my LaManchs goats ears as regular maintainance as well as for ear mites in my dog and cats.*

This comes in a 2 oz bottle. A little goes a very long way.
