My little mutt has had three puppies

Although pups are suckling frequently am not sure that the dam has much milk, if squeeze just above the tit no milk is expressed. The pups were only born last night, the last one at 10.00pm. The dam is attentive and stays with the pups.

Ask your vet for help. The bitch and pups should be checked anyway.

You need to weigh the pups at the same time every day and keep a chart.

It is normal for pups to lose a tiny bit of weight in the first 24 hours, but should at least double in weight in the first 7 days.

The puppies suckling and kneading with their paws will promote more milk production. The pups are tiny at the moment and what looks like a small amount of milk to us, is a lot to them. Also if you have checked just after they have fed, they have eaten all the milk so there wont be much left.

Dont forget to trim the puppies nails regulary (about twice a week) to make sure they dont cause too much damage to their mum.

Good luck.
