Mickey ~ Happy, Stunning Fella – 3yo Blue Greyhound

MICKEY

Meet Mickey. Mickey is a 3 year old ex-racing greyhound who’s owner decided to bring to us from Galway once he had finished his racing career. He is a stunning blue boy with striking eyes and the softest, sleekest coat of all the hounds in our kennels! He is in fantastic condition and has been well looked after.

Mickey has arrived only recently so we are still getting to know him. So far he has been a real gent with the ladies and loves getting fuss and attention from people. He is always pleased to see you and is quite a confident, relaxed boy. If you like your hounds big and blue, then Mickey is definitely quite a catch!

Mickey has been very good with the other greyhounds in our kennels so far. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs!

Mickey boy has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit patient at the start and give him time settle and adjust to the changes. It usually takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.

Like most greyhounds, Mickey will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

Mickey is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Mickey, please email me for our adoption application form and information pack. Thanks!
