How can I get him used to the hoover?

What is the best way to get Bailey used to the hoover. As soon as it's turned on he goes into a tail chasing frenzy
He is doing so well with learning not to attack his tail but the hoover is a real problem. He gets really stressed and ends up with a very soggy tail it doesn't make any difference if he is in the same room or a different one, he still spins.
What should I do?

maybe make a tape recording of it and play it at a low volume - thjats all i can think of - or get one of those small hand held hoover things, so its smaller and less threatening

How about trying putting the hoover on in a different room with someone else operating it ( if possible) and you feeding him treats when he's not spinning, but not doing anything when he is? Would that work/be possible!
Good excuse for not doing the hoovering though!!!

have the hoover sat in the middle of the rooma nd play around it and like kick says play a tape of it on low and gradually increase the volume.....

Thanks I don't have anything to tape the hoover noise with. Would it work the same if I put it on upstairs then gradually moved it closer?

If you can't get someone else to help, maybe you could turn it on and walk over to him and reward him? Not sure if it would work but if you try and persuade him that the hoover means good things happen ( like food) then you're most of the way there! Good luck! He sounds lovely!

He is lovely ( most of the time ) but a bit of scaredy pup sometimes!

We have to ignore Loki or put him in another room because he goes into a play bow and goes all silly, barking and wagging his tail

This was actually on the Dog Listener on Friday they had a dog which did this. The lady had to stop whatever was making the dog tail spin and grab the dog to calm it down. It eventually (after a time) got the message it was bad behaviour and wouldnt be tolerated.
