this dog needs a home with someone who is more responsible, i mean if in the first instance her thought was oh well do you want me to have the dog pts that doesnt sound much like she cares about the dog, and a greyhound (if it is an ex racer) should be muzzled when out an about to protect the small furries after all thats what they are trained to do, this is my main reason for not liking greyhound racing

This woman is giving greyhounds a bad reputation. Some greys do have a high prey instinct and if their ex racers its even more pronounced. They are docile, placid dogs but some are not good with small dogs, they cannot differentiate between a small dog and a rabbit, especially if seen from a distance. This woman should have had her dog muzzled and possibly on lead if the owner was aware of the smaller dog.

Owners like that make me so mad apart from a poor dog unnecessarily losing its life, it ruins the effort spent improving the breeds reputation and suitability as pets. If she's still not learn't from the experience the poor greyhound will no doubt end eventually end up paying the price for her stupidity.

All breeds can be involved in dog on dog attacks but like that stupid TV vet who published that awful greyhounds article a few years back proclaiming greyhounds to be killing machines , people jump on attacks by certain breeds more than others. The main cause in these attacks is usually an irresponsible owner, like in this case. Thankfully most greyhound owners are knowledgeable of the breed traits and take the necessary precautions if they feel their dog may pose a risk to others or itself.

I don't think all ex-racing dogs should be automatically muzzled, like other breeds it should depend on the individuals behaviour but its a useful tool to assess and socialise safely. My own ex-racing greys are fine with other dogs so i don't muzzle but i don't let them off lead in unsecured areas as there recall isn't 100% so they don't tend to run with other peoples dogs. Its also risky for a muzzled dog to run with unmuzzled dogs as they can't protect themselves if they get attacked.

A racing trainer i know doesn't train his dogs to kill things just hones their natural instinct to chase the lure (plastic bag, fluff covered squawker) at the track its often a windsock. The pups spend most of their day just chasing each other about, i'd imagine part of the problem is that they don't tend to get socialised with other breeds.

OMG!! That stupid woman!! Why is the grey still not muzzled? It beggars belief really, I feel sorry for the people of the small dog that died, I can understand why they are uncomfortable walking their new dog... but I also feel sorry for the grey, having a numpty owner that is giving it an awaiting death sentence Either the dog should be offlead and muzzled or onlead...imo.
