Up Date On Zues ...

Hello All

I Just thought I would post an update on my issue I had with my dog Zues.

Once again Thank You for everyone's comments and suggestions.

I have been in contact with a Trainer/Behaviorist, Who has since come out to my house to assess Zues.
He watched Zues interact with the Boerboel puppy who is now 7 months old.

Zues did bark, and bailed the trainer up, and his comments were, Zues is showing fear, and needs to build up his confidence.

On the dominance/aggressive side, The trainer is quite confident Zues did not growl and snap at my son for aggressive or dominance reasons, But in the fact that my son had hurt him.
He has said the same as most people's comments, that if he wanted to bite my son he would have.
Also after I explained that my son feeds the dogs and makes them sit, until they are told it is ok to eat.
And I know a lot of people Do Not agree, but I also have my son put his hand into their dish and stir their food and take some out.
( With me standing over the dog ) The trainer said, well if Zues was Aggressive or Dominating, I would see a reaction there.

The trainer also pointed out that on Zues's list, Dominance does NOT rate very high.
He interacted very well with the pup, and only gave a little growl, when the pup tried to mount him.
He said if Dominance was high on his list he would have dealt with it with more authority.
They play together very well and share toys and at times even bones.
This is not to say there will not be Issues when the Boerboel reaches maturity and challenges Zues.
But he thinks Zues will more than likely just except it without to much of a struggle ( I Can Only Hope )

The trainer also stated that Zues needs more than just basic Obedience, So his training starts next week.

So Thanks Again For All Your Help And Suggestions.

Regards

Ashley

That is reassuring news Ash. Hope you are now feeling confident about Zeus' temperament. What training are you going to do?

Hi Shadowboxer

I am not sure what is involved, But he said not to go to the local Obedience.

He did not push his buisness, but said I need more personal training, He can do One on One at my house for $ 80 per hour.
Or a small group of 5 dogs at his location, for about $15-00 per hour.

But he says I should get him out more, around trains and noise's to build up his confidence.

Will keep you updated on Progress..

Thanks Jackie.

That's great news Ash, it must put your mind at ease knowing that Zeus is not agressive. Somtimes it needs at outsider to notice these little things and point you in the right direction. :P
