Anal Glands

Woody has just secreted onto our sofa!!!

I haven't noticed any scooting or smell but looking back now he was madly chasing/nibbling his tail/rear end this morning.

We leaving for our holiday in the Lake District early tomorrow so will it be OK if left for a week? I couldn't face doing it myself!

Dudes, no way could I do it myself, just no way. I might be able to persuade Neil but Woody's been very jumping lately when we go near him and did not enjoy having his advocate even!

I just need to know if it's OK to leave them for a week, will they possibly empty themselves? Or shall we pop him into the vet on the way to holiday?

lol fair enough. you may get a little bit of leakage but thats about it. it shouldnt be a prob leaving them. unless you can tell he is in pain, then i would take him. other than that it doesnt really bother them that much, what he needs is a nice hard poo to push it out

Some dogs need help & some dont. If he is going to need help Regulary then one of you is going to have to do it, or you might aswell just buy the vet a new range rover now!!!!!

Not tried it myself, but apparently raw carrot helps, as it's not digested and help stimulate the anal glad on it's way out, so to speak!!!!

LOL, this would be the third time in a year they've needed emptying so you might be right.

I think I'll get the vet to show Neil. I'd Vom'.

You could book him in for a groom and get the groomer to do it?

My first dog needed help. The vet showed us how to do it. We had to do every six months or so. You soon learn a technique that traps the smelly stuff quickly in kitchen roll then a bag you can seal.
I wouldn't leave it, not fair on the dog.
