2 pc's in the house help?

I have just been given a pc from a charity for my disabled daughter its all internet ready but i havent a clue how to set the connection up?

My laptop is downstairs (not wireless broadband) so how do i go about connecting hers upstairs?can i just buy a new modem etc and connect it that way without it affecting my connection downstairs? we have a phone line in the spare bedroom which is where the new pc is.

Many thanks :smt001

Is your laptop connected right to the phone line Sarah? I'm not sure how you would go about connecting another one to the same phone line - perhaps you would have to have an extension put in upstairs We have two pc's upstairs but they are wireless.

no that wont work unfortunately.

can only run one modem on one line.

what you need to do is create a network.

which if your not pc literate wont be that easy.

if your with bt the easiest way would be to get a wireless router off bt that will be pre configured then and thn jsut plugs into your downstairs pc and then get a wireless adapator for the upstairs pc.

prolly looking in region of 60 - 100 pounds for the two.

You can get an ASDL Router from PC World for about £70 and it has the filters with it. I have got a Belkin one and its great because it enables 3 computers to be wireless. Its easy to set up too.
