The thing is H, dogs live in the moment and he won't sit there and think'life was so much better when this dog wasn't around' he'll just get on with it. As long as you keep an eye on things he'll be fine I'm sure. He likes other dogs so as long as they are a 'match' it will be fine. Whilst this lady knows him I do thinks she is putting some of her own feelings about him onto you. You know him best. He isn't the dog you rescued...he is now your Georgie. He has been with you long enough that his main influence is you and yours.
I don't think you should be put off by this lady, however well meaning she may have been, I think she is almost putting human emotions onto him. At the end of the day he is YOUR dog now, you knowhim and what makes him tick. If you think he would benefit form the right canine friend then go for it and sorry, but blow what anyone else thinks. It's your life and his...at the end of the day he will be happy and will be guided by you.
Good luck with whatever you decide mate, believe me I know it is a hard decision as I am currently facing sort of similar...

I do understand re: the dominance but a new dog may come in and be happy that he is the boss - he may be ok with a bitch being in charge - you may not see any change.

He also might love another dog for company but some dogs prefer to be on their own - its a tough one for sure? I'm not pushing you H at all just trying to give you some more to think about as if you don't have enough already

You will do what is right for Georgie whatever I know that H - maybe he deserves to have you all to himself for all his life ?

His past life doesn't seem to involve any problems with dogs - just lack of socialisation???

And whose to say that another dog won't make him even happier with you and Dave and Mum?

I don't think I'm helping at all am I - sorry H!

Thanks A. Yes, my mouth dropped open when she started coming out with all of this quite honestly I think she actually wanted Georgie for herself at the time, coz he had spent so much time with her lot, she'd got to know him very well in the 10 weeks she had him, but she just didn't have the room, coz she already had 5 of her own! She used to visit me about once a month, just to check up that he was being cared for properly (I know that!!!) and this carried on for about a year, but then I haven't seen her for about 3 years now!! Georgie remembered her, but he wasn't interested in doing the "nutty" bit with her this time, instead he came over to me and stuffed his head between my knees and started wagging his tail and making silly noises that only gsd's know how to do! That probably got up her nose a tad too!!!! Then I showed her the pics of the two dogs I had been interested in, and you never know, there might have even been a tad of jealousy there too, knowing that she couldn't have another big fluffy coz of the 5 she still has now? You just don't know do you, I mean, if I'd have shown her a picture of maybe a little smaller bitsa dog that might not have been up front in the looks stakes, she might not have said what she did maybe? I know how much she really did want Georgieboy, but said to Dave, she couldn't possibly have the room for a big bear like him, whereas I do of course and some! She also told me (horror upon horrors!!!!) to let Georgie spend the rest of his days in the luxury he has, and then go out and buy another puppy, which would be the dog I want, and not one with a load of baggage or one that you can't trust!!!! See, I don't see it that way, I see it that these poor creatures need a warm loving home, and as you have just said yourself, dogs live for the moment, so if I can make them happy and loved, then why would they want to give me grief????!!! I won't do "aggressive" in any shape or form, there's too many people coming and going and I just couldn't take that risk, but I can do most other problems, especially "old"

I can't wait to chat with my dog warden chap and see what he thinks. The last time when I lost that Sophie up the road coz although I went on my own to do a first visit, by the time I was due to go back with Georgie, mum had fallen over and when that was all sorted out, the dog had gone! The words he used at the time though were "she's a real sweetheart and would be a perfect match for Georgie", so maybe he'll come up with something again for me. I'm in no hurry whatsoever, but I don't want too much time to think otherwise I can see myself changing my mind!!!

H I think you just said it yourself. You were sooooooooooooo excited about rehoming a doglet that NEEDS a home and then this woman blows it for you. My advice...ignore her and continue on your quest for your new doogy companion for ALL of you...
At the end of the day it is your decision, but I think this woman can safely be ignored.
Just my honest opinion matey!

Only just had the chance to reply to the post, I can't give any advice, as only you know georgie well enough to judge what would make him happy, but I just wanted to offer some support, and I know you will make the right decision.

I am not going to offer any more advice as I feel you are confused enough right now, and only you know what is right for all of you.

The only thing I will add is that when I was having the same huge dilemma with getting a friend for Flame, my friend said that while I own the house, pay the bills etc (and Flame doesn't!) then whatever happens in that house should be up to me and Flame would get used to it. She did - and I can confidently say I made the right decision.

However, when you are as undecided as you are right now, the best policy I feel would be to sleep on it and don't make any firm decision until you are 100% certain it is what you want

Wise words KIrsty, wise words!

The thing is though, I want this more FOR Georgie than I do for myself I think?! I feel sorry for him sleeping most of the day, I'd much rather have dogs that are playing together, such as I've always been used to, even when Cassie was on her own here, she was always out most of the day with me with doggy friends up at the stables. Perhaps he's happy doing just that though, bearing in mind he never knew any different in his previous life, and although he enjoyed the 3 years he had playing with Cassie, he's quite happy to revert back to not doing much of anything except for his morning walks. Don't forget too, these dogs are quite happy to fit in with whatever regime you have, as long as YOU are there with them, I've always found that, as I'm sure you have Kirsty?

Just had another chat with Dave and he tends to agree with the woman who came yesterday, he says Georgie is more than happy at the moment, he's never left alone for long, I'm here all the time, except for maybe an hour or so during the whole day, he enjoys his morning jaunts, or a mooch around the garden, and he thinks I should just let him be.

Yes, think I'll sleep on it! I'm still having my home check though, and my chat with my dog warden friend, and que sera!
