Waving goodbye or roll over

Finn has to learn a trick for his last puppy class next week. I was thinking waving goodbye or rolling over.

I think we have the roll over covered but would like him to try the wave goodbye as its his last class and its a trick that the others probably wont do.

Help please

Hi Carole,I can vaguely remember seeing somewhere how to teach them to shake or wave,

Here goes,i think :smt017
Get him to sit, have a treat in your hand, touch his paw with the hand with the treat in and say Shake/ Paw.
Gradualy lift your hand a fraction over time and say the same Shake /Paw, he should lift his paw to your hand, then you can lift your hand higher and higher.

Sounds simple i know, and not sure if that is right, but maybe someone else will be able to put "us" right.....

Dont laugh if i am way off..... :smt081 but i know its something like that

Tricks are so much easier to demonstrate than to describe

If Finn already shakes hands, and most Boxers do this almost naturally, then 'waving' should be easy. Just give the 'shake' signal but instead of holding the offered paw make sure he misses your hand. Gradually hold your hand up higher and he will reach up to it with his foot. You can then incorporate a little 'waving' motion with your hand and the command 'wave' or 'bye-bye'. He will soon pick up the difference in command and signals.

'Spin' or 'turn' is an easy one to teach. Just lure him round in a circle beside you with a food treat held just in front of his nose. Do it slowly to start with and reach well out so the circle is large, otherwise he is likely to plonk his little bottom down halfway. Once he understands the motion of your hand & the command you can start making the lure/signal much smaller. Get him to do it both clockwise & anti-clockwise. You will find that he is better going one way than the other, but do it both ways as it is good exercise for him to use both sides of his body.

Good luck
SB
