Antibiotic abuse - when are they going to stop?

When it's too late by the look of it!

Bacteria that resist the antibiotic of last resort - colistin - have been discovered in the UK.

Officials say the threat to human health is low, but is under ongoing review.

Scientists warned the world was on the cusp of a post-antibiotic era when such resistance was discovered in China last month.
Story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-35153795

Routine antibiotics to farmed animals, over-prescribed to humans and not taking them properly - all making matters worse.

People don't have to take them, Doctors stare at me in amazement when I say I haven't taken any AB's in over 30 years and have no intention of starting anytime soon. Yes Doctors are wrong for over prescribing and people are wrong for expecting them all the time for what is usually a trivial illness.

The problem is that they have been thought of as a miracle cure for so long that until another 'miracle' comes along, people will rely on them

Whilst you have today's generation running to the Docs for every ache and pain and demanding treatment, doling out quick fixes to clear a surgery will go on.

Most of the medicines sold over the counter are useless and just money wasters. Old tried and true remedies are no longer known as they were in our day and I am not talking about waving a frog over a sore throat.
