Don’t leave your dog tied up outside.
Don’t let your pet into a yard which is visible from the street.
Don’t leave your pet unattended in a car with the windows and doors open.
Keep your gates locked when your pet is inside
Install an Id or microchip on your pet
When you are away keep your pets with trusted people

A microchip does exactly nothing to stop a thief from stealing your dog. Do you believe that thieves carry microchip sensors and check before they steal? The chip is a recovery aid, nothing more

micro chipping is not proof of ownership,so don't think it is.

If you register a chip it will identify you as the owner. Presuming the dog is yours you will have photos of you with the dog. These two facts will get any law enforcement agency to give you the dog back. If ownership has changed a court battle will ensue. So the microchip will do it's job and prove ownership in 99.9 percent of situations.

It's the law here in the UK for all dogs to be chipped but it doesn't prove ownership, although a receipt will. I have all my dogs chipped, veterinary records for them and receipts from when they were purchased. I don't have photo's of me with the dogs because although I own them and walk them, I also photograph them, so I'm behind the camera. I do have photo's of them in my garden which is quite easy to identify.

How can you have no photos of you with your dogs? That said photos of the dog are more than sufficient. From what I am gathering from this thread, the UK is a very unsafe place for dogs as the government wants all dogs chipped. Why? to prove ownership naturally. Since you must register the chip, it is proof of ownership of the chip, while it is possible to sell a dog and not change chip ownership the chip still is owned by the buyer and register of that said chip

Why must all dogs be chipped in the UK? Seriously I am curious, Trouble says that this has nothing to do with ownership which does not make sense to me.

Too many dogs get dumped, Too many run free and cause havoc, probably has more to do with when dogs attack they can identify the owner and prosecute them.
