Simple answer is no! Although I prefer to call them pure bred as any dog can have a pedigree. All a pedigree is is a list of their ancestors.

No, but a Kennel Club registration certificate is the nearest thing we have, to a sort of 'guarantee'. Without that a person could say a dog was pure bred or pedigree, whichever you want to call it, when it might simply look like a certain breed, and actually be a cross breed.

We use the word pedigree when we mean that a dog is pure bred, but a pedigree is actually a piece of paper that lists a dogs ancestors, a family tree if you like.
