Not all the time, it maybe producing enough power to power a small light but no where near enough to power a pc.

The green light does not stay on for long, it goes off as soon as I press the power button on the front of the pc and there is not a single sound from the pc, if thats any help

Sounds like the psu...also the 1st thing i would get checked and the cheapest to replace.

Good place to start, motherboard is my bet though When ours went, we started by replacing psu, then motherboard and so on...

Can anyone recommend anywhere where I can get one? Also does it have to be an HP one or would an HP compatible be just as good?

PSU are a standard thing caz, the only thing you need to watch is that it fits into your case.The power suppy into the pc is the same which ever type you go for. I would go to a local shop, psu are 1 of the most basic items.

Any should do and there is a few places both online and high street, one thing I would do is check what the power supply looks like as some companys will use micro ones or ones or custom ones for that case.
