Reg was in a smallish rescue, pretty relaxed rules, even said if I wanted to rehome they would take him back but I was free to do it privately.

Issues, he's DA, wheher this pre-dates him being in the rescue I don't know.
I tend to think it might have been his experience within the rescue that caused it, the dogs were pretty much given free reign and I saw him get 'started on' twice, through no fault of his own, in the hour or so I was there.
In fact, he had pucture marks on his ear and near his temple when he came home.
He will make friends when he realises that the dog in question is not going to eat him.
Apart from that he's wonderful.
Toilet trained, loving, loves kids, no guarding issues, bikes, scooters, crowds are all taken in his stride.
Terrified of fireworks though!

I found it easy when I got Jake, but I didn't have a dog already and with him being a puppy, it was a case of them wanting them gone that day... so no home check.

The way my situation is just now, I highly doubt any rescue would let me get a dog... That is why I ended up going to a breeder for Arrow. Any 'rescues' in the future will be private rehomes, rather than coming from a rescue centre.

My rescue came from my local dogs' home which is essentially the council pound. No home check, but they were very interested in whether or not Gelert was neutered. As he already was, and they could see that for themselves when I took him down to meet Gracie, there wasn't an issue but I don't know if they would have refused me if he was entire.
My impression was that they won't just rehome to anyone with the cash and they will try to match you with the right dog, but they are much less stringent than most rescues. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, but if you're worried about blanket rules you might want to consider your local pound.

Whisper was from a small rescue. They did do a basic home-check - more to check the garden than anything else - but weren't massively strict. In fact; I was just saying to my husband the other day that they really didn't ask us many questions at all - given that she was my first dog!!

They did emphasise though that we could telephone at any time. But no contact since we rehomed her other than when we have put pictures up on their forum of her for them to see.

I do think they went on their 'gut feeling' and probably took in a fair bit about us from the questions we asked. And I guess as they knew John was retired they didn't need to be concerned about her being left etc.

Issues..... she was terrified of men and very head shy at the rescue but frankly this faded very quickly.

She is nervous and shy of other dogs when out and about although she loves smaller dogs! She can be gobby through her nervousness although she is much better since we've socialised her.

House-wise there has never been a single issue. Housetrained, clean, never ever destructive, doesn't steal food, sleeps well (though is terrified of the kitchen so her sleeping in there was never going to work - she sleeps in our bedroom!) and is sooo laid back in the house it's unbelievable lol! xx

They said they weren't sure if she was spayed or not and felt that at 7 1/2 years old it wasn't fair to put her through an operation to find out so were happy to rehome her as she was.

Because of Whisper's nervousness with other dogs we are far more likely to get a puppy for our second dog (hopefully a BC in a year's time! ) than an adult rescue dog but certainly wouldn't rule rescue dogs out for the future. Whisper does get on fine with my sister's *very* lively adult BC - it's just 'strange dogs' she gets nervous around.

We got Tango from Flat Coat rescue, they match the dogs that come in to the people they have waiting. Home
Checks are done if the people are
not already 'known'- each case is assessed according to the dogs needs.
I should have known when they said 'we thought
of you as she needs some work ' lol!
Rescue rocks- we adore her.
That said- I really do want a Cosmo
niece or nephew at some point. He's my
One weakness lol

I don't know for sure but the times I have been to visit Manchester and Cheshire dogs homes they have seemed to be quite open and relaxed. My friend went to visit and mentioned working and they didn't say anything against it and got a lovely dog out for us to have a look at.

All rescues are different. All dogs are different.

I have never had a rescue/rehome without what I consider to be 'issues'---until Fizz! Who probably would have an 'issue' with anyone else. He tends to just run when first let off, it is a bit hairy and you need a strong nerve.

All people have different ideas of issues as well.

Just impossible to generalise.

ours are rescues, Tess can be challenging when training as she never grasps things as easy as the others. she also has a very short attention span.

Talking of JRT's Mojo is only 12 inches high but she can play hard (although very easy to train and she is a smart one), infact she plays harder than Flower who is a small SBT X so maybe a few days introduction with your would be beneficial.

I've never had a homecheck TBH they just seem to land on my doorstep
