Dexter, 'Working' Lakeland, DOB 03.10 - Derby

Dexter, 'Working' Lakeland, DOB 03.10 - Derby

Homing Requirements: Dexter needs a terrier experienced home with at least one other dog present. He is a terrier pup who has become confused when a behaviourist suggested his 'puppy biting during tough play' is best stopped by strict exclusive house rules and 'no touching'! His homing broke down, so Dexter now has a calm role model(s) who understand and practice normalised behaviours and achieves positive training. 'Good boys', lots of affection and confident tactile contact will redevelop trust in his humans which he had lost.

His Story Dexter's puppiness became a threat and concern to his owners and also their instincts were not towards understanding a 'working type' terrier's needs and they were misadvised. Dexter is now channeling his energy into an active and highly social life in foster with 2 excellent adult terriers. He needs this positive reinforcement where his attempts are appreciated. Other balanced dogs are the best teachers for puppies. Dexter is chipped and vax'd.

Advert: Dexter became a mixed up puppy who seemed to be getting it wrong, but in our view his owners were given wrong advice. Dexter needs a family who 'get' terriers and who have at least one other dog. His development has reached a critical stage and fortunately his has now moved in with 2 excellent terriers and his fosterers are already shaping and rewarding positive behaviours. Dexter is walking well on a lead and learning to be out and about.

Dexter is what is called a 'Working Lakeland'; in fact a Black and Tan wirehaired Fell terrier. He has working roots so needs to be highly socialised with other dogs at this age so he softens his interactions with meeting dogs and learns to settle his own excitement levels through timely human management. Dexter is mixing well, exploring life and focusing his energy successfully. Dexter needs stability and to be with people who 'walk the walk' with terriers.

If you are interested in re-homing Dexter please complete our homing questionnaire so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.

***PLEASE NOTE: We are a rescue finding dogs their forever homes. We usually ask for a minimum donation of £150 at the time of adoption, for each dog, to help us continue helping homeless dogs***.
