Insuring your pet when used for "breeding purposes"?

Was just wondering what other breeders do when it comes to insuring their bitch that is due to produce a litter?

I was just about to accept and insurance policy that states anything cost resulting from pregnancy or giving birth would not be covered. That's fine as I just wouldn't claim, but then it says:

General things this insurance does not cover:

1 Cats and dogs less than 8 weeks old.

2 Breeds of dog used for fighting, wolf
hybrids, dogs used for security and
guarding and any dog registered under
the Dangerous Dogs Act.
3 Anything that is caused by, relates to
or results from;
• your pet’s medical history before
the insurance started.
• your occupation, profession or
any business.
• you not complying with the
Government’s Pet Travel Scheme.
4 Any claim associated with rabies.
5 Your pet when used for breeding
purposes.
6 Any claims resulting from a trip abroad
when you and your pet live part of
the time in another country.
7 Repatriation of your pet following
its death.

So I'm guessing this means the bitch won't be covered full stop, rather than just for costs arising from breeding?

So, what does everyone else do when it comes to insuring a brood bitch?

i'm not sure as i don't breed, but i think most companies won't pay for costs incurred due to pregnancy and whelping but will still insure your pet, i could be wrong though. i'd phone round as many different companies as possible. i'm with petplan and i'm sure they will ensure your girl but not pay for any costs incurred as a result of breeding

Thanks both.

I think I'll give a couple of companies a ring just to make sure what their stance is. I don't mind the pregnancy/birth etc not being covered, but I'd still like to have her insured for everything else.
