Why are houses so cheap in Yorkshire!?

Why are houses so cheap in Yorkshire I landed on rightmove looking for properties with workshops and ended up in the Thorne area of Yorkshire, and couldn't believe my eyes

Look at this!!!
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-...-24125669.html

This house would be well over £700K in the South east, so why so cheap up in this area, anyone know?? Is it somewhere to avoid??

I also found this fantastic bungalow, a farm wish fishing lakes, on a massive plot, a commercial business at £550 Again, that would be in the milliions darn sarf!

I'm doing a property search coz we've sold our house (hopefully!) and want a home and a garage business for Dave, although he's prepared to diversify, especially with that fishing, what a place hey! Have to borrow a few bob, but it's in me "inbox"!!!

Then there's this gorgeous property in Devon, a lovely garage, a brand new 4 bed bungalow, in the middle of nowhere, but on a main road, and well within our price range!

Of course, this can only happen if Dave manages to sell his garage too, but he will know the outcome of that next week! I'm all for moving ooop North, but don't want to make the wrong decision if there's something wrong with that Thorne area?

Hi hun, Thorne's near Doncaster and it's an ex mining town. Never been so cant comment but there is not many jobs around here at the moment and house prices have fallen through the floor.

Forget Yorkshire Helen, although there are loads of fab places there, especially North Yorkshire (and the people are very friendly) ... but move to Scotland instead You will get loads for your money

A friend of mine is selling this ...

OH WOW Kirsty, now that one's right up my street, but sadly, double the price of what we have and with no income to borrow on it The land that comes with it though, would allow me to be on the caravan club, coz you need one acres minimum of level land, road access, and a toilet block and tap, but, what would the income be, not much would it! I doubt whether Dave would be able to rent a garage nearby to keep my living it up in the land of luxury in that gorgeous house while he worked 24/7 either!!!!

Thanks morganstar, that would explain it then, so Dave wouldn't have many customers would he up there

Oh, I'm liking this one....... a bit too much!!!!! Where can I stick Dave then?? He needs to work from somewhere and it looks built up around it, so he couldn't work from home there! Fantastic, right up my street again

I did find a nice log cabin/lodge thingy, but you needed a boat to get to it and I think it was in Mull and a friend of Dave's said to forget it coz of the midges in Mull!
