She was overweight - got it under control

I wanted my pup to have everything!
The "pup" food - the rewards - the chewy bones.

But I overdid it!

She got fat!!

I went to the vet who advised me that she was overweight.

He told me that she could live for three weeks on the fat she had stored!

He advised a diet, which I followed.

She had a carott, half an apple, a couple of beans for breakfast.

For the evening meal she had a quarter cup of dried "puppy" food and 1 chicken neck.

Over the last month she has lost 1.25 kg!

She now has a waist line!

She is a much happier dog now.

And I am so sorry that I did the wrong thing.

The important thing is you recognised she was heavy, you took her to the vet for advice, and you acted on the vets advice straightaway :smt001
You have a much healthier happier doglet as a result, you have learned from it for the future, and can lend the voice of experience to others to help them avoid making the same all too easy mistake, something you have already started doing with this thread !
Sure, you were overenthusiastic on the treats, many, many people are, but I`d say you have a lot to be proud of now

Just mirror what Patch has already said. So easy to fall for that look they give you. They know how to pull the guilt card. But good on ya for sorting it out and look forward to many pics and stories

It's what they cut off a chicken, that no-one else wants to buy, unless they are making chicken soup! It's actually the neck - they cut off the head and what is left is the "neck"!
before you actually get to the "chook"!!

It's probably about 2 - 3 inches long - quite boney and not too much nutrient, except for calcium and marrow bone .

Sorry to be so graphic, but in Australia, we buy the chicken necks in the Supermarket, by the kilo!

We also buy chicken "frames" by the kilo.

That's after a shop has taken all of the "meat" off a chicken and all that is left is the bone and a very little bit of meat.

I should also add - do not do anything so drastic, unless you are are under a vets supervision!

We go to the vet on a fortnightly basis.

The vet has his nurses weigh my little girl every fortnight and record her weight. They also feel her ribs - hips and observe her waistline!

Because I have tried so hard to correct my misbehaviour, the fortnightly check ups have become free!

I am so sorry for what I did do to my dear little one.

I thought I was doing the right thing.

Quite often now, I feel so guilty, but I know I am now on the right track.

Even though at times my little one will lie in front of the fridge and groan - she remembers what came out of there!!!

Thank you for your support and encouragement.

I was feeling it a bit bad

I know I have done the right thing

It's just so hard to resist the blandishments of your dog!
