We give all our dog owners that come to us a weekly diary with also what to practise from week to week. It does help them to practise what needs more work. Then going over the notes they have written and practising the bits that need extra work. If they get stuck during the week they email me for guidance.

It depends how deep you want to go with the diary.

A basic is what you want to achieve at the start of the week/month and at the end of the period noting what you have achieved.

More complex is to break down everything you want to achieve in that time frame so that you have, in effect, a training plan. Making notes as you go as to successes and failures helps to see where things have gone well and what's gone badly so that you can start to see a pattern as to the 'why' of what works and what doesn't and allows you to adjust your plan accordingly

I keep a blog (friends only) where I basically keep track of all training with my dogs. Mostly it's just description of what we did, how it went, etc.
