Sorry Eileen - No prizes for you today. The one with the horns (well feathers really) is an Eagle Owl. The other is Great Grey Owl found in the North of Scandinavia, Russia and Canada. Lives in conifer forests. Would carry on but would get told off - for being a show off! You see I really like Owls (with the exception of the noisy family of Tawney owls that frequently keep me awake at night (they live in the wood bhind the house).

Congratulations - in that case you win a copy of the Observer's Book of Owls of the World (Just made that up but sounds like a good title for a book).

Awesome. I have heard owls many times here, very close too, but no matter how hard I look I have never actually seen one.

They may well have been called Harry and Eva - but - the siberian one is Eva who is a Siberian Eagle Owl a sub species of the Eurasian Eagle Owl (Buba Buba to which is added the word Sibiricus to denote it's particular sub species). The other one, who has apparently been given the none too exotic name of Harry is a Great Grey Owl (Strix Nebulosa) and although found in Siberia does not have that title. It's distribution is as described in my previous post. Pedantic dissertations are something of a speciality of mine so please forgive any excesses in that department. LOL!

Quick P.S. Know beggar all about trains so wouldn't dream of making any observations in that area apart from the fact that it looks very nice.

Actually the best Eagle owl is my Tyto, Wildfell Eagle Owl. All his litter were named after owls. Love them and when in Scotland often heard tawnies.
