Native tree replantation

Did anyone see this in the news? They are gradually going to remove non-native trees such as conifers and restore to semi-natural states with oak, ash and beach, especially where they link small and fragmented woods throughout the country.

I think this is lovely.

I saw this on the news also and think we do need more of our native species of hardwood trees and less of the pine softwoods. There are still Oak,Beech,Ash round here, but only in areas of old woodland.

Not seen a living Elm though in years-which is likely due to DED sadly.

I guess they'll still have plantations of pine for renewable wood sources?

Most of the pine used in the UK is sourced from Scananavia and other parts of Europe. It is actually a better quality timber due to a colder climate, which makes it grow slower and better quality.Only thing is-its not uncommon to find bullets in timber because of WW2!

Wow! I would never even have thought about bullets, but I can see why.

Sounds good. Just hope it will work with all the climate change etc.
Saw an article a couple of weks ago saying we might have to have a huge re-think on trees and go for things like Olive rather than Oak! So, I dunno???
