Dylan, Lurcher, 6 years old


His Story: Taken into care originally by the RSPCA as his owner had 18 dogs in their house. Dylan and his other 5 litter-mates got left in kennels. They have been moved through kennels, stables, old cars and back to kennels. Rescue Remedies took over their care. Been homed, but Central London proving too 'noisy' for him to be able to relax.

Salient points: Beautiful silken coated dog. Excellent with dogs. Timid of people initially, but soon comes close and starts to build a relationship. Good on lead and house training within understanding setting. Needs another confident dog(s) to afford him a strong clear role model.

Advert: Dylan was homed 2 months ago and has succeeded in everyway. However he continues to be nervous outside and as he lives in Central London, sirens, a close-by helicopter pad and busy traffic are proving challenging. Dylan has a wonderful temperament, but has a innate nervousness which will take a long-time to fade. Dylan soon harmonises with a confident dog as he is subservient by nature. Dylan is neutered, groomed, has had a full dental, complete vet check and all aspects checked and cared for. Dylan is ready for his Home, currently fostered in Wokingham, Berks.

Dylan is "Needy", but settled so well into a home life and environment. He has such a loving nature. He travels well in the car and has good housetraining. He needs a special dog savvy family who will give him time, take him slowly and rejoice in what small steps he achieves. There is nothing more rewarding than giving a deprived dog his CHANCE.

An update from Dylan’s fosterer, Jilly, a friend of mine (!) and my visit ...

“My boy went for a long wood walk yesterday ending in a swim in a river, with Rex, on an extendible lead. He loved it. He then met Sharon and John - well you can't have everything in one day. But seriously it was good for him to meet 2 new people in his own home. He settled after a little while and really did quite well.

He just pants if he is unsure of a situation but overall coming on nicely. He let Sharon sit next to him and stroke him. One step at a time but all these dogs will get there in the end. Love, confidence and the pack to follow”.



Well what can I say! You have to meet this boy in the fur to appreciate just how handsome he is. When he moves it's like watching doggie dressage and his coat flows with him. He is nervous, but as Jilly says, he has come a long way in a couple of weeks and after a while we shared the same armchair and he had stopped panting and we had a cuddle. Even when he is frightened he has not a trace of aggression or a bad bone in him and he is totally dog savvy. When he finds that special owner he is going to be one gentle, faithful dog. Enjoyed meeting him, shame John couldn't distract Jilly long enough to get him in the car - could easily have taken him home with me! Here he is ...

Here is an update from Dylan's fosterer:

"Just returned from an hours run through the woods. Dylan loves his daily runs with the pack. Even little Ruby joins us now.

Dylan has very good recall and is coming along very well with horses joggers and bikes going by him. He is excellent with other dogs only a big Doberman walking towards him made him look at me like oops but still went on by.

The odd noise makes him look but he does not run off he just stays close to us until it passes. It is a joy to see this boy running with Millie and Rex through the woods always keeping up but regularly running back to us to make sure he does not loose us. He is very attached to us all.

In the house he still follows me when I get up unless he is cuddled up with mum or Tony. He is eating very well and initiates play with the others. He is playing with toys for the first time now and just loves being with everyone.

When we go out he goes up with Millie and Rex and sleeps on our bed with them until we return. No pacing or worrying just relaxed. Rex allows him on the bed which is really unheard of for him. Normally only Millie is allowed but with Dylan he is so not a threat he gets to do anything really. If Rex does growl because he thinks he has over stepped the mark or settee Dylan just ignores and moves away so never a confrontation.

A really loving dog. Dylan comes up to me for kisses and cuddles but he is now sleeping on the floor in the front room more often which is a very good sign. Initially would only curl up behind us but now acting more like a confident dog. He can still have a cuddle when he wants but he does not need a cuddle now like he used to.

Loud or strange noises or fast movement still can make him flinch but becoming much less over time.

Beautiful boy who is so loving and so handsome people comment all the time. Just needs a really good dog owner who will build him up with confidence and encouragement. He will never be 100% bold but he will be 100% faithful loving companion to the right owner".
