Pro-biotic stuff from vet - can I use human stuff?

My puppy has just had a bout of diarrhoea. I took her to the vet and they charged me a small fortune for some pro-biotic paste. The vet said it was the same kind of stuff as Yakulf (hope that's spelt right), but only for dogs. I never thought to ask at the time, but does anyone have any ideas on whether I could just give her the stuff from the supermarkets for humans?
