I would only ever judge you in that you had to make a harsh decision and you did it with love. I have been there and done that too. It takes a great deal of strength to accept so much pain so that you can relieve another's. I wish you well, and let all the best memories shine through.

I would and could never judge you as I had a very similar situation. I had the most beautiful rottiexgsd that i loved unconditionally with all my heart, but she was a complete and utter nutcase. There are lively dogs but she was totally OTT and unless you met her which a couple of people did on here you wouldn't believe what a hyper nutcase she was.
She done her cruciate ligament and went to a top specialist at Newmarket to have it done. He said he had never seen such a hyper jumpy dog and as she weighed 40kg he used the strongest pin and fixing screws that were available. She had to be sedated for 6 weeks and kept in a cage to try and stop her jumping around but she still managed to spin and jump through all that. However after a very difficult few months we did get her through it and she was given the all clear to resume normal exercise.
The confinement had really messed her head up and her agression towards children and dogs and some people worsened. I used to hire a field for her everyday and drive the 20 mile round trip for her to use it so she wouldn't put other people or animals at risk and she could free run and play.
however she was such a crazy dog she actually managed to snap the pin in her leg. There was nothing stronger the specialist could use, he said he could operate and redo it all but she would need to spend at least 3-6 months in the crate and then never be let off the lead again, not even in the garden as her spinning and jumping would do it again.
she lived to run and play and she had been so miserable and it had affected her so badly temprement wise with the confinement she had already endured we decided it was kinder to put her to sleep.
Like you it was probably the hardest decision I have ever made as in every other way she was healthy. I am sure some people that had never met her thought this was drastic but those that knew her, knew it was the kindest thing for her, mentally she couldn't take anymore.
I am so sorry for your loss and I understand what you will be going through, none of us knew your dog so we are not in a position to judge and shouldn't. You did what you did through love for your boy.
