Kyle ~ Friendly Relaxed Boy – 4yo Black Greyhound

KYLE

Kyle is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound who was no longer good enough for the racetrack. He is a black boy with a soft coat that, once he has some good food, will soon be sleek and shiny.

Kyle is a lovely, easy going boy. He loves his walks and gets excited when he sees its walk time, but soon settles down once out and about and is very good on the lead. He is a real little character and we think he’s going to love toys once he realises what theyre all about. He adores people and loves getting fussed over.

Kyle has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit patient for the first few days and allow him time to settle. It usually takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.

Like most greyhounds, Kyle will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.

Kyle has behaved very well with our other greyhounds and has found a best friend in another of our hounds, Dave (pictured below). We think they would make a beautiful pair if someone is looking for two houndies, though they can be homed separately too.
Kyle has not been tested with small dogs or cats, though these can be carried out prior to adoption if requested. Often ex-racing greyhounds take a bit of socialisation work to realise smaller breeds are in fact dogs as they would never have seen them before.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

This gorgeous boy is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Kyle, please email me for our adoption application and information pack. Thanks!

~~ KERRY GREYHOUND CONNECTION ~~

Kerry Greyhound Connection is a small voluntary organisation based in County Kerry, Ireland and Norfolk, England and operates through a network of volunteers. We can look after approximately 70 greyhounds at any one time, in Ireland and the UK.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and given a full veterinary check before being adopted.
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Europe and the USA.

If interested in one of our hounds, please EMAIL or PM me for our adoption application form and information pack. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then telephone you to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail.

I hope they get good homes. They look beautiful.

I would love to rescue a Greyhound but we have rabbits and live in an area where rabbits are abundant so not a possibility for me.

Maybe in the future though

Good luck Kyle and Dave x x

**UPDATE: NOVEMBER 2010**

Kyle has now travelled across to the UK where he continues to wait for his forever home with his buddy Dave. Ideally we would like to find these guys a forever home together, but we will home them singly if the right one comes along.

This gorgeous boy is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Kyle, please email me for our adoption application and information pack. Thanks!

**UPDATE: DECEMBER 2010**

The lovely Dave has settled very well in to his UK kennels, and he remains a very friendly and loving boy. He adores any attention you give him and we know he is going to just relish the home life.

Like a lot of ex-racing greyhounds, Dave is now learning that dogs can come in all shapes and sizes. Right now he is quite keen on small dogs, thinking that he is supposed to chase them. With lots of positive socialisation with many different dogs, this boy will improve, and we are asking for experienced sighthound owners for Dave and his buddy Kyle who understand that their current reaction to other dogs does not take from their lovely personalities.

**UPDATE: DECEMBER 2010**

Kyle has settled very well in to our UK kennels, and is a lovely quiet boy, never making a fuss. He remains very good with our other greyhounds, and is now starting to learn that dogs can come in all shapes and sizes.

Right now Kyle is quite interested in small dogs as he has never seen them before and is trying to work out how he’s supposed to react to them. This will soon lessen as he gets used to seeing small dogs and learns that they are indeed dogs. With some time and lots of positive socialisation, Kyle should get used to meeting smaller dogs.

**UPDATE: JANUARY 2011**

Kyle is still looking for his forever home, if possible with his friend Dave. We would love to find this boy a foster home while he waits to be adopted, as he has definitely spent long enough in kennels.

This gorgeous lad is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. He can be homed throughout the UK but please note that you will be required to travel to meet and collect him. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Kyle (and maybe Dave!), please email me for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24hrs. Thanks

**UPDATE: JUNE 2011**

The lovely Kyle has been in his foster home now for about 3 months, and is doing so, so well! He is definitely 100% ready for his forever family to come along.

~ Personality ~
Kyle is a confident, friendly boy who is now very happy and content in himself. He is in beautiful condition and is a striking big, black boy. Kyle enjoys meeting new people and always welcomes you into his home with a big wagging tail. He loves a bit of fuss and will stay by you all day long if you give enough chin scratches.

~ In the Home ~
Kyle has settled beautifully into his foster home, and acts as if he has always been there. He has been responsive to the basic do’s and don’ts of the home and is quiet and settled in the house, preferring to just snooze away while you watch the TV. He is now completely housetrained, though new owners need to be aware that he might go through a scent marking phase when he first arrives into the new home, possibly resulting in a few accidents at the start. This would soon stop though once he learns the routine. Kyle has the greyhoundy habit of collecting household items for safekeeping in his bed. He never chews these items and is just a collector in his spare time!

Kyle’s fosterer has been working with getting him used to being left alone, and he is doing very well. Kyle has been left completely alone for 3 hours, and for 5 hours with another dog with no hassle at all. As such we feel he could do well as an only dog for a working family provided someone could drop by a few times a day to check on him and perhaps bring him for a walk. He really enjoys being around people and so breaking up his day with perhaps a dog walker visiting would leave you with a much happier Kyle!

~ Other Animals ~
Kyle’s reaction to seeing smaller dogs has improved greatly after getting regular, positive training from his fosterer. He is now a very social boy with dogs of all shapes and sizes, and really enjoys being around them. He can sometimes get a bit over enthusiastic and vocal in his greeting, especially if he sees the dog in the distance so has to wait for them to get closer, but this is just excitement and, with a bit more work, should soon settle down. He is sharing his foster home with another dog and, once he knows his position in the pack, he is very content and gets on great with his houndy friend.

~ Where Am I? ~
This gorgeous lad is currently being fostered in Norfolk, UK. He can be homed throughout the UK but please note that you will be required to travel to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Kyle is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting Kyle, please email me on for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24hrs. Thanks
