Need some help in understanding!?!

Hi all, as it say's!

My boy Oscar is in the vet's. This is the second night they have kept him in. They operated on a cyst in his neck today and had to leave a drain in!?

I just dont really understand what this is?

They took out all "the bad stuff" and said there was still a small amount of infection left behind and this was why there was a drain.

Any help in understanding what this means?

Thanks in advance!

Mark & Oscar

Hi Mark if they close a wound when there is a chance there is some infection left this will cause big trouble and they would probably have to start all over again.
A drain, usually a peice of corregated plastic or a plastic tube, will hold the wound open and allow the infection to drain away. I think this is normal procedure.
I hope Oscar is better and home with you soon.
Hugs to you both.

Aww, thanks Nippy,

I didnt really understand it when they were telling me and the girl spoke so fast it was hard to ask her any question's!

I much prefer speaking with the Vet who owns the practice. We get on really well and he know's me now, so he just tell's me how it is and drop's his "proffesional" act which I much prefer!

Thanks again for the hug's and info!

Well I got Oscar back tonight! Woo!

The drain is in and Oscar seems to be his usual self!

He is away to bed, seems to be a little down but that's to be expected.

Lozzi, I know, I think Oscar saw Jake's drain and though "I want one of those!!" lol!
