Help - my sons computer has just blown up.

He has just come down and said his computer has blown up and there is an horrible plasticy burning smell which is wafting down the stairs - anybody have any idea what has gone on it - do you think its the CPU thingy

Just realised something - he only had it in January this year - it should still be under the guarantee shouldn't it I was thinking it was older than that but we got it in January when my mum died so thats how I remember. It was from P.C. World.

Mine blew up earlier this year with the same sort of smell, it was just the motor and was repaired quite cheap. If its under 12 months old yes you should have the guarantee to back you up. Good luck.

Thanks Sjpurt and Luz Just tried ringing PC World and finally got through all the damn menus where you have to press 1 or this and 2 for that Got through to a person and told him what was wrong and he then decided to put me through to someone else - well I was left hanging on the phone for 10 minutes with it continously ringing out - so I got fed up and put the phone down Don't know whether I really want it to go into Pc World actually because I think they take ages to mend them from what I have heard

-nope could be the whole pc.lol

you need to see if it turns on still, if it posts (bleeps) etc ..

and then if you open the side panel look for burnt bits.lol

No it won't turn on at all O/h took the CPU out last night and we think it may be that - can't see any more burnt bits inside - would we be able to see if the motherboard had burnt? Its only 9 months old so we don't know whether to take it back to PC World or have it mended privately or if its just the CPU do it ourselves

id take it back to pc world.

it needs a full service

if the cpu has blown then there is a reason and unless thats worked out i would suggest it will happen again.

also if im right the pc should at least turn on with no cpu
