Purina hypoallergenic

Has anyone used this food for a dog with inflammatory bowel disease, vet suggests using this as its closest to the zd food kavik is on. Just wandering what results you had from it, kaviks faeces are good @ present but needs to get off the zd diet. passed no more blood/ mucous stuff for ages now.

I think this was the food the vet put Dexter on a while back when he was on an elimination diet to isolate the source of itching.

Is it a kibble, a sort of white/beige colour, small bits of kibble?

Dexter was not overly impressed with it, it did seem a bit bland...

I am a bit concerned of the low protein level. Going to ring vet to see if there is anything else we could try, was thinking of wafcol one.

What particularly concerns you about the protein level?

He is a working dog & needs a higher protein, not so worried during summertime as not training then but he seems a bit lethargic & would like a higher protein food if possible during the winter as he loves to run in harness xx

Well look at fat content, dogs get their energy from fats first and foremost. You can add fats of course to the diet however with a dog with IBD, this may be an issue.

That is very low for a performance dog so you may have to review his lifestyle if such a diet change is essential to his overall health.
