Chewing relieves stress and releases endophins which makes the dog feel good. I would certainly continue to provide plenty of safe chewing opportunities while you fingure outt he cause

Maybe a (frozen) Kong smeared with something like peanut butter/fish for dogs salmon mousse/small amount of frozen mince would help?
