I am looking at buying some computer equipment (mail order) & the advert says "no grey imports here".....does anyone know what gey imports are please??? Another ad I have seen offers grey imorts without warranty!! it sounds a bit dodgy but i wondered what the legal implications are if anyone can shed light for me?

Well I used to work in car insurance and when a car was thought to be a grey import it meant it was shipped over from japan or "an import that doesn't follow the usual route through the car manufacturer's own distribution system"!

Perhaps it means the same for computer equipment? IE imported from overseas?

Hope this helps!

Grey imports are products imported through channels other than the official agents. Usually they carry no guarantees or promises of service backup. Some retail shops openly advertise their imports as ‘grey’, hoping that cost-conscious buyers will be attracted by their low prices. But buying an appliance such as a Hi-fi is one thing; buying a safety-critical power supply test device is completely different.

Also the big players in electrical components like Sony are fighting hard to stop it HP has just had a big case fighting one of it's now ex resellers for doing this after tricking HP into giving them a big discount then reselling them on
