a friend of mine uses a playpen. it opens out to about 12 feet long and has an opening bit that you can position at the door you want to go through. if you put the right bends in it its free standing and can be folded up when ur not using it. I know this is a really old thread, but just thought id drop in my 2 pence worth hope you got sorted out

ahhh i bet your mate has a baby den play pen, absolutely fantastic invention, it is so versatile...we are currently using ours between the sofa and chair to stop the dog going to the front door

Thanks for the later replies - this brought me back because it was after my first child. Awww, I remember it well.

For the second child, we got a Baby Dan playpen - I'm still using a bit of it for the kitchen door because it slides back behind the table and we don't trip over it. Mind you, Loki has worked out how to use his nose to slide it.
