When we were very small, many many years ago now, my granny was a grocer. One of those small back street shops in Wigan. When we visited she would take my brother and I " backstage" to see if there were any nice lumps in the icing sugar. In those days sugar etc were loose and the shopkeeper weighed out what you wanted from the huge box. Well, one day, my brother and I decided to help ourselves and dived into this box for nice lumps. Yep, you guessed. It was the box of dry marzipan powder.. A mouth full of gritty, sticky ground almonds is really something else and I have never liked marzipan since. yukk!! But don;t like almonds at all, even in bakewells. Isn't taste such an individual thing!
