Animal therapy

Are you involved in animal therapy activities? I am interested in this idea and would love to have my pug visit some hospitals.

What are the needed requirements? Is there a certification?

I don't how it is where you are.
Our dog has been PAT tested. Pets as therapy.
He did fine. Not a great surprise.

When I offered that service to our local hospital I was asked to provide passport photographs - no problem. Then a significant fee.

That didn't sit well with me. I get my dog qualified, he passes and I'm offering his qualified therapy service free of charge. And you want me to pay for my free offer?

I declined.

Of course different policies around the world, but it seems a shame that a service offered by lovely dog owners should be charged for like this.

Wow. This is surprising. I totally agree about the service fee that you will still have to pay despite offering your service.
My pug was able to uplift my friend's emotions when her mother died. Considering how much is therapy nowadays, my pug was able to help her without any spending money.

Totally agree. But I take some comfort from the fact that Max got certified and that he has been wonderful therapy for me when I went through difficult periods with various serious ailments. And that he makes people smile.

How could you not love this poser of a beast....

I don't know if your experience is the norm as it's something I haven't been involved in, but I wonder if you would have a more welcoming response from local nursing homes.

The reading to a dog scheme seems to have proved popular too.

I emailed one today. We'll see.
It has the merits of being closer and there is nearby parking which is free for up to three hours.
