hi he's lovely - but can i suggest that you get a proper cage for him, as tanks really don't make suitable housing. they'er too small, and the fumes from their urine build up and cause respiratory trouble. and also, I know he'd benefit from a friend too, rats hate to be alone... If you need any advice or help, please feel free to drop me a line

xx

Hi, i think he is lovely. We had 2 rats up until last we where we lost one.

They do like company and seem to get on really well in two's. I think when he gets bigger you may need a bigger cage though!

Its a 29G tank, which is 2.5 feet long and a foot wide...why bigger?? I have read that tanks are fine as long as its kept clean. And have always seen them in tanks around here. I dont plan on getting another one as my husband wont allow it. I have also read that they do fine on their own as long as stimulation and interaction is given. I dont want to sound like I dont want to take the proper care of him; I want to do the best for him, but I have read that all of these things are fine. ???

sadly a lot of information about rat ownership is incorrect. We started out the wrong way too, but really, tanks aren't very good at all, even if kept clean. The size is a major issue, healthy rats need space to climb etc, and a good size cage for a pair of rats (because really it's cruel to keep them alone, as they become so lonely) is like the Savic Freddy 2 - http://www.ratz.co.uk/images/petrats/freddy.jpg

I strongly advise that you read www.ratz.co.uk - as this is one of the most accurate and important websites about rat ownership.

OK. So come to find out Basil is actually a girl. I was told it was all boys so I didnt even bother to look. But after looking at the links that sent me....well I dont see any nuggets And havent since I got her. So Basil is now called Boo. LOL.

Zoundz: Maybe I will keep one of her babies as Im sure with being in a cage with all boys shes gotta be pregnant. As far as the cage Im looking around...
