Pain in the dew claw!

Hi I wonder if anyone can help? Badger our Staffy has recently began experiencing some pain on and around his Dew Claw. He isn't limping and is still running about - but when he catches it say on his bed - he lets out a little yelp. I have tried having a look, it's not split and his pad doesn't look inflamed or anything - but he doesn't like me touching it at all!

I will book him in a the vets if it doesn't get any better in the next day or so - but if someone has had a similar experience any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks in anticipation!

Even if there is nothing wrong with it it can still hurt if it catches on something. It might need trimming back a bit as they don't wear down like the claws on the feet.

Hi guys, firstly - apologies I thought I had responded to this - but obviously hadn't!

I have hopped back on to give an update - his dew claw went fine after my initial post - until that is this morning when during our morning walk I noticed it bleeding!

I took him straight home and he wouldnt let me near it - poor boy. Anyway - after a trip to the vet - the nail has been clipped off (not sure how short and if there is any claw left as I had to come to work so partner took him). As far as I have heard though he is much happier than when I left him at 7:30 this morn! He has been given antibiotics - if anything changes I will let you know!

thanks again!
