Worried - puppy off food and not himself!

I'm worried about my 6 month old basset hound Elvis.
Yestereday he went for his usal morning walk and had breakfast and all was fine.
Since then he has'nt touched his dinner last night nor his breakfast this morning.
He is pottering around the garden a little today but nothing like his usal bounding.
I know his not himself, he did'nt even get out of his bed when my sister knocked at the door ( he always runs to the front door when there is a knock). He also did'nt come into the kitchen when I was making my sons lunch.
how long do you think I should leave it until I take him to the vet? am I overreacting? do some dogs just go off food for a few days?

thanks for any advice

claire

Yes some dogs go off their food
But you are saying he isnt himself too, you know him better than anyone and you feel something is wrong
I would head to the vets right now just to be on the safe side

Hi Claire, is he peeing and pooing ok?

No you are not over reacting , I would get him checked by the vet. Better to be cautious than to be sorry where puppies are concerned.

yes, he is weeing ok.
he's not drinking too much though.
I think I'll follow my heart and if he's not any better in a few hours I'll take him to the vets.

Ohh poor Elvis!

I am sure he will be fine but a trip to the vets might be worth it! I took Monty when he was like this before, it turned out to be nothing but I felt better knowing it was nothing!

Keep us posted, ohh we haven't seen any pics of Elvis before, would love to see them!

Partly you need to know the dog. With my Labs, I usually call the vet the first skipped meal and it has always been something needing attention. I let a Shepherd go 3 days on nibbles and never did call the vet.

Sooo glad he is ok!

Puppies do have their moments don't they?

If you go to the My dog's pictures section I am pretty sure there is a thread there on how to post pics!

U need an account u can upload them on (i.e. Photo-Bucket) then u can copy the image code to ur thread!

Looking forward to seeing him! - I LOVE Bassett Hounds!
